Indy, the Sabres, a Birthday, and another Vaction

For starters, I wanted to let you all know what a great city Indianapolis is. It is a real clean city, there is a lot of restaurants, and my aunt has a pond in her backyard (not like that matters to you). I visited the downtown area of the city and went and saw a baseball game at Victory Field. The Indianapolis Indians played the Charlotte team (to lazy to look it up). The Indians ended up winning 5-2. It turns out the Bisons were just there and it would have been funny if I acted like a complete idiot there rooting for the Bisons. Also, like I said, I did some fishing in my aunt's backyard. I ended up with 3 Crappie and 15 Sun Fish. Nothing really with size, accept a couple of decent sized Sun Fish. Pictures to come from the trip.

As for the Buffalo Sabres, I'm real worried right now. I have read a couple of sources and those sources are saying the Sabres are just going to keep Briere. If that is the case, I would rather lose both Briere and Drury. Today though I read this article in the Sports section of the Buffalo News and I was real impressed by a writers thoughts. He first talked about what the Anaheim Ducks and the Indianapolis Colts and how they were successful in winning their respective teams sports championships. Then he tried comparing them to how the Sabres should handle their off-season. He suggested the Sabres should sign both Drury and Briere and get rid of some other players by trading them on Draft Day. Players like Afinogenov, Kotalik, Vanek, and Roy are very talented players, but these guys at the end of the day aren't going to win you a Stanley Cup. These are the Danny Heatley's, Jason Spezza's and Miro Satan's who show up during the regular season, but when it matters most do nothing. I suggest the Sabres make cap room by trading guys like these and look to add more grit. My dream trade would be trading Afinogenov, Kotalik and Kalinin for Mike Fisher. Fisher was one the top players for the Senators in the playoffs and could also really help out on a penalty kill that was just awful all year. The Sabres need more character, not 4 top scoring lines. I would rather end up in sixth place in the conference next year and win the cup, instead of going to a of bunch regular season games and them winning. Vanek has a tone of potential, but I want the cup and I don't know if he is the answer. Here is the problem with this idea: Darcy Regier, one of the leagues most conservative gms, is our gm. He will not do this. The Sabres also have a owner who knows absolutely nothing about hockey, so don't expect us getting rid of Darcy either. July 1st is going to let Sabres fans know how serious the Sabres organization is about winning the Stanley Cup next year, and I hate to be negative, but it isn't looking good right now.

Tomorrow is Ryan's birthday party thing. This is a special day because we go trout fishing somewhere near the town of Arcade for a few hours, then go to Earl's for some fantastic food, and then to the always classy school bus figure-eights. I'm going to have a post on this as soon as I can to let my loyal viewers in on how June 9 went.

Finally, I'm going to be going away for about 11 days to Orlando, Florida. My favorite Uncle Chris has hired me for that time to help him out with his painting business, aptly named "Dulakis Painting." I need all the money I can get because tuition just went up a grand on me. My response to this is our country is a joke, but I would rant now. Anyway, hope this post sparks some interest. Let me know your opinions on how the Sabres should handle their off-season problems and etc. See ya, John aka Ronnie James Dio aka Holy Diver
